Camp of Good Shepherd Retreat & Work Day
An update from Case Manager Daniel Krueger from the men’s New Life Program:
Last week, we were able to take 20 men down to Camp of the Good Shepherd for a work day and an overnight retreat. The directors of the camp have been overjoyed by the help that we have been able to offer them. The students helped clean and repaint the pool, planted sycamore trees, cleaned out two storage containers, cleared, cleaned and organized a whole building. One of our guys was a plumber so he was able to fix the water heater. The camp directors expressed to me that they may not have been able to re-open their pool this year without our help.
After the work was completed we were given some freedom to enjoy the camp. The guys loved playing horseshoes and other games, as well as just relaxing. We had a campfire in the evening and a program graduate came out to share his testimony with the students around the fire. All the best conversations happen around a campfire! I encouraged the men to take some time to get alone with God in His creation over the weekend. Several men shared with me later how they felt like they heard God clearer than they ever had through the birds, the stars, and through his creation over the weekend. I believe this will be a pillar for some in their relationship with God and in their recovery.
