A White Van Provided Hope
David told me he was living a gypsy life. He was asked to go out of town with a guy for a job. They were drinking and things turned ugly. The man told David to get out of the truck. He dropped him off and then, he had nowhere to go. David was tired of living this way!
He was lost, lonely, and had nowhere to turn to. David was at Chubb’s and he said a white van pulled up. They asked him how he was doing and if he wanted something to drink. He said yes to the water and told the Street Ministry team he was struggling.
The Street Ministry team said they would help him get to Open Door Mission. They called another van to pick him up. David said, “I have never had anyone go out of their way for me.” He now refers to the vans as white angels!
Once at ODM, he knew it was a God thing. David ran into a man he used to drink with
at a hotel in Lincoln everyday and the transformation he saw in this man was astounding. His name was Cory and the day they reconnected was Cory’s six month sobriety date to the day. They both were under the impression that the timing was divine in nature! Cory told David about the New Life Recovery Program and encouraged him to fill out the application.
Next Cory sought out his case manager to make sure David could get some help. David already had the application filled out and he wanted what he saw in Cory. The real joy is during our conversation I asked David about Jesus. David knew about Jesus but he had never given his life to Jesus. He was excited to pray with me to accept Jesus as his Lord and savior. Praise the Lord!!!!
David has not only given his life to Christ but went to devotions the very next morning and is now in the New Life Recovery Program! He wants to get baptized and is doing well today. We all can be encouraged because we are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. We even have a few white angels going around!
